Chinese researchers develop hybrid chip design that holds promise for ‘thinking machines’ – Yahoo News

Image
Chinese researchers have developed a hybrid chip architecture that could move the world a step closer to achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI) and a future filled with humanlike “thinking machines”. Their research presented the case for the Tianjic chip, which was designed by integrating the “computer-science-oriented and neuroscience-oriented” approaches to developing AGI. Tianjic shows that combining those two approaches, which rely on fundamentally different formulations and coding schemes, can enable a single computing platform to run diverse machine-learning algorithms and reconfigurable building blocks, among others. Chinese researchers, led by Tsinghua University professor Shi Luping, have designed a computer chip, called Tianjic, that shows a hybrid architecture capable of supporting so-called artificial general intelligence. Best Graphic Design Software 2019 – Digital Arts Online

Image
Whatever your budget and level of expertise, there’s a wide range of cool design tools to choose from. The term ‘graphic design software’ covers a multitude of sins – and we use that word advisedly – but in the creative industries it most commonly refers to two main types of software. On the more artistic side of the fence there are ‘illustration’ or ‘drawing’ programs, typified by the mighty Adobe Illustrator. These drawing programs use vector graphics tools to create artwork ranging from corporate logos to technical drawings, and even sketches and illustrations that mimic the appearance of paint and other natural media. However, graphic design can also cover page layout software as well – also known as DTP or ‘desktop publishing’ – which allows you to combine text and graphics for magazine articles, web pages, sales brochures, or incredibly long and boring technical manuals. There’s a lot of overlap between these two types of software as well. Most drawing programs also includ...

The HP Z8 is one of the most powerful workstations you can buy, but is it the right one for you? – RedShark News

Image
Review: The dual-processor HP Z8 supports up to 56 cores, Quadro RTX graphics, 3TB of RAM and loads of storage. But is this the right kind of power for your work? Let’s take a look. This HP Z8 G4 workstation just received a refresh that enables the 56-core configuration that we tested. Our testing included industry benchmarks like Viewperf 13, Cinebench and Octane. For application testing, we wanted to test the multi-core performance with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Some of the tests met our performance expectations and some did not. Simple on the outside. Simple on the inside The Z8 has a sleek design. It is tool-less, compartmentalised and simple. With plenty of venting, the Z8 sports four USB connectors and an SD-card reader along with multiple front-facing drive bays. The rear of the workstation has six more USB connections, two ethernet connections, VGA, keyboard, mouse, and I/O connectors. Access to the interior of the Z8 is well designed, simple, and fast. Remov...
